  These watercolors are of leaves from a morus tree (mulberry) at the place where I stay. The tree has started shedding its leaves from early October and I have been picking them up for what seems quite a long time. But in the last two weeks I feel like I 've noticed them for the first time. Now, what remains on the branches are all bright yellow leaves and when there is a wind that blows, they drop like rain. They last less than one day: they dry and start dissolving into dust almost immediately...
  I love leaves. I love to observe their uniqueness -like fingerprints. Although every plant species shares the same "signature", every plant has its own character, and every single leaf its unique design. How often do we fail to appreciate the beauty that surrounds us... The trap is we more than often think we know. The more common our idea of a plant or a tree is, the greater our surprise when we find ourselves marveling at them.

Φύλλα μουριάς

  Αυτές οι ακουαρέλλες αποτυπώνουν φύλλα μουριάς από ένα δέντρο στον χώρο που μένω. Η μουριά έχει αρχίσει να ρίχνει τα φύλλα της από τις αρχές του Οκτώβρη, και μοιάζει να τα μαζεύω ήδη πολύ καιρό. Τις τελευταίες όμως δύο εβδομάδες έχω ένα αίσθημα σαν να τα πρόσεξα για πρώτη φορά. Ό,τι απομένει πια στα κλαδιά είναι κατακίτρινα φύλλα, και μόλις ένας άνεμος φυσήξει πέφτουν σα βροχή. Τώρα πια φθίνουν σχεδόν αμέσως: ξεραίνονται και γίνονται σκόνη...
  Αγαπώ τα φύλλα. Αγαπώ να παρατηρώ τη μοναδικότητά τους -όπως τα δακτυλικά αποτυπώματα. Παρ' όλο που το κάθε είδος μοιράζεται μια κοινή "υπογραφή", κάθε φυτό έχει τον δικό του χαρακτήρα, και κάθε ξεχωριστό φύλλο το μοναδικό του σχέδιο. Πόσο συχνά δεν αποτυγχάνουμε να εκτιμήσουμε την ομορφιά που υπάρχει γύρω μας... Η παγίδα είναι πάντα η ίδια: νομίζουμε πως ξέρουμε. Όσο πιο κοινή είναι η ιδέα που έχουμε για ένα φυτό ή δέντρο, τόσο μεγαλύτερη είναι η έκπληξή μας όταν βρεθούμε να το θαυμάζουμε.
